How can you get the right dosage for taking syrup medicine aside from reading the dosage on the label?
I noticed my doctor looking at the age, weight/height, then she computes it then prescribed the right dosage. Sometimes it’s different from the label of the med. Have any idea what the solution she had done?
Your doctor would have most likely looked at a basic database that they have access to of proper dosages for children based on their BMI (weight/height) and age… it’s similar to what the pharmaceutical companies use to determine the amount listed on their label and is often created by those companies for doctor’s recommendations when prescribing.
Aside from asking your doctor for a printout of that list for that product (which they may not legally be able to do, based on contracts with that pharmaceutical company), or if the company has it listed on their website (which most don’t to avoid problems) there isn’t really a way you could get that list.
So aside from going by the label’s recommendations, asking your doctor is the only other option. Good luck!
